Program Overview

The overall objective of the Emission Offsetting Initiative is to transform the behaviors of individuals and organizations to be more aware of their negative environmental impact, act upon it and could scale their positive contribution in the society. WRI Indonesia will achieve this through working together with governments, businesses and individuals, by installing and integrating emission monitoring business processes and systems into their current organizational and individual behaviors and value chains. The outcomes include improved sustainable behavior in terms of reducing and offsetting emissions through accountable participatory approach with organizations and public at large.

General Internship Roles

The intern/s will provide technical work in multiple areas of emission management for supporting the Sustainability Champions team at WRI. Specifically, the intern/s will contribute in method-based data analysis for sustainability projects and overall scientific research pertaining to cancelling and offsetting emissions at individual and communal level, in organizational and city contexts. The intern/s also will contribute as first or second author of research publications in the same topic while assisting in some stakeholder engagement as well. S/he will be based in Jakarta, reporting to Sustainability Officer while coordinating closely with other WRI Indonesia’s teams.

Learning Outcomes

·       Statistical Research. Assist in collecting and databasing relevant public and private data that could be useful for environmental emissions tool by WRI Indonesia and for external purposes.

·       Data Analytics & Science. Assist in crunching and calculating statistical numbers leading to emission facts using sensible assumptions and close proxies for organizations and individuals.

·       General Sustainability. Using specific metrics, assist in measuring and tracking periodically the carbon emission from WRI Indonesia personnel’s office activities and lifestyle, and further expand into emission reduction projects externally.

·       Project Coordination & Communication. In consultation with Sustainability Officer, Sustainability Champions Team and other relevant Teams, assist in coordinating the execution of various project and engagement.

Deliverables

1.     Contributing to minimum one statistical tool product for internal asset.

2.     Minimum one emission data analytics/science research for external organizations.

3.     Report on support given to Sustainability Officer and Champions Team.

Job Qualifications

·       Senior undergraduate/master student or freshly graduated student from respectable universities in Indonesia or overseas (preferably students from Data Science, Statistics and/or Economics studies).

·       Strong analytical skill with strong attention to detail, mixed with good academic writing skills.

·       Familiarity in dealing with medium to large scale of numbers with varied qualities, as well as able to demonstrate skills and knowledge to manage these data professionally.

·       Knowledge in emission-related area and sources of such. Familiarity in transport and consumption area is preferred.

·       Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of team.

·       Ability to think creatively with flexibility and speed.

·       Highly responsible and self-motivated, that could also work in organized and efficient manner.

·       Legally able to work in Indonesia, with language fluency and basic understanding of local culture.

Duration and Compensation

The duration of the service is August to December 2019, with possible update to contract subject to performance and project plan. Detailed work plan will be discussed with WRI Indonesia team following signing of the engagement contract. This is a paid, full-time intern position

Final candidates might be required to take a writing test and to produce two writing samples when needed.
