Job Title: Full-time Researcher/Project Officer (ASEAN Studies Program)

Background

Established in 2010, the ASEAN Studies Program (ASP) of The Habibie Center (THC) has been playing an active role in promoting and facilitating policy research and discourse on a wide array of issues related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Through its public outreach activities, all of which involve diverse stakeholders in Indonesia and the wider Southeast Asian region, the ASEAN Studies Program has also been actively contributing to the strengthening of public awareness on ASEAN.

Recently, the ASEAN Studies Program has obtained a grant to conduct public discussions in the ten ASEAN Countries on the issue of countering violent extremism (CVE)/preventing violent extremism (PVE), and is searching for  a team of researchers/project officer to fulfill our main activity outputs to:

Organize regular public dialogues related to ASEAN issues, especially regarding countering violent extremism (CVE)/preventing violent extremism (PVE);
Produce reports and research material related to ASEAN issues, especially regarding countering violent extremism (CVE)/preventing violent extremism (PVE);
Liase with different stakeholders in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, especially regarding countering violent extremism (CVE)/preventing violent extremism (PVE).

As part of its core team, The Habibie Center plans to hire full-time researchers/project officers (ASEAN Studies Program).

Location: Jakarta, Indonesia

Duration: 12 months (starts October 2019), full time (5 days or 35-40 hours per week).

Initial one-year hire period (extendable based on performance)


Responsibilities:

Working under the direct supervision of the Head of ASEAN Studies Program, to carry out tasks related to organizing regular public dialogues, producing reports and research materials and liaising with different stakeholders in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, especially regarding countering violent extremism (CVE)/preventing violent extremism (PVE).
Producing work plans, including identifying themes and activities, determining programs, agendas, priority issues and topics as well as resource persons for public discussions to be held in ten ASEAN countries.
Identifying and liaising with ASEAN sectoral bodies, relevant AMS government offices and civil society organizations (CSOs) as well as local partners for the public discussions to be held in ten ASEAN countries. 
Producing reports/conference proceedings including but not limited to comprehensive notes and analysis from the proceedings, meeting materials and presentations, discussion points and recommendations provided by participants, and action plan for next steps (if any);
Producing milestone reports and working on other administrative matters as required as part of the grant to conduct public discussions in the ten ASEAN countries.
Assisting The Habibie Center with other activities/events when the need arises.
Requirements


Minimum undergraduate (Bachelors) degree in international relations, security studies, or other related disciplines with some previous experience in related fields. A master degree or relevant experience is a plus;
Demonstrated strong knowledge on regional economic integration issues especially in the ASEAN region, and up-to-date with the general news and events regarding the ASEAN Community and ASEAN countries. Knowledge of countering violent extremism/preventing violent extremism in  ASEAN is an advantage;
Previous working experience in a similar role, and specifically experienced in organizing public discussions and working in grant programs;
Strong research, written (English and Bahasa Indonesia), analytical, and organizational skills;
Willing to organize events such as public dialogue and international seminar and to handle administrative issues.
Solid organizational skills, with a proven ability to prioritize projects with attention to detail;
Experience working with a variety of stakeholders, including local research organizations, governments and NGOs;
Integrity, professional discretion and ability to interact effectively with diverse partners.
