Save the Children in Indonesia is changing for the better. We've begun to build a national organization that aims to be a strong, local, and self-sustaining voice for children in Indonesia. To this end, SC Indonesia has been designated as a “Prospect Member”. As ‘Prospect Member’ Indonesia has been identified as part of the next way of new member development, which focuses on strengthening and localizing our voice for children in strategic middle income countries. Indonesia has been authorized by member ballot to start fundraising locally as a first step towards building a financially sustainable local organization. Future work will also involve developing a strong local governance structure and building key partnerships with local government, the private sector, local civil society among others. Success of the pilot phase will set the Indonesia on a pathway to full membership. We are currently seeking to fill the following position:

Communication Officer (DRR Project) – Jakarta

ROLE PURPOSE:

As ‘Associate Member’ Indonesia has been identified as part of the next way of new member development, which focusses on strengthening and localizing our voice for children in strategic middle income countries. Indonesia has been authorized by member ballot to start fundraising locally as a first step towards building a financially sustainable local organization. Future work will also involve developing a strong local governance structure and building key partnerships with local government, the private sector, local civil society among others. Success of the pilot phase will set  Indonesia on a pathway to full membership.

To inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, and in line with our theory of change, Save the Children aims to be a credible and powerful voice for children; because of this and in support of the marketing/fundraising elements of our approaches; we know that communication and advocacy are very critical to Save the Children success.

The Communication Officer will work with the program teams as well as Awareness & Engagement Manager for communication and Engagement works of disaster risk reduction project in both in National Level and Field Level; and will support programs to develop and deliver communication and engagement strategies in every level of project stakeholders, also produce quality communication products and materials.

She/he will intensively provide support Awareness & Engagement Manager related to day to day communication, Campaign and Engagement works, as well as financial, administration management and assist on tracking as well as listing Communication materials in National & Field Office.

The post holder will work alongside program teams and Media & Communication Department, Advocacy & Campaign Department at Country Office also Bandung Field offices to organize events, identify and generate story opportunities, s/he will react to major breaking stories, engage with influencer / public figures, develop  / design IEC Materials, and fact sheet, write newsworthy press materials (press releases, case studies, media briefings), s/he will also push out press messages on key social media networks, such as twitter, facebook, Instagram, youtube and others.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

·       Degree or equivalent in communications, public relations or related areas

·       At least 3 years experience in communications / campaign,  event management or public relations in a non profit organization or private sector or relevant experiences.

·       Having basic understanding on writing, photography and videography

·       Have a skill on design with adobe photoshop, Coral draw or others design software

·       Experience in engaging the public in campaigns

·       Innovative and creative approach to problem solving.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia

·       Ability to work fast, effectively and independently in often high pressure environments, working across a number of teams to deliver high communications output.

·       Sound understanding of different communication tools.

·       Sound understanding of the disaster risk reduction issue, social development and child rights issues in Indonesia.

·       Innovative and creative approach to problem solving.

·       Experience in working in multicultural environment.

·       Hands-on experience designing communication tools

·       Commitment to Save the Children values.

·       Experience of, and willingness to travel in the country, sometimes at short notice and for extended periods of time
