*The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI)is an independent academic institution established in 1984. Since 1990, RWI has carried out a wide range of research, academic education, and
institutional capacity development programmes internationally in the human
rights field, mainly with the support of Swedish Development Cooperation.*

RWI’s global thematic foci are economic globalisation, inclusive societies,
people on the move and fair and efficient justice (www.rwi.lu.se).


RWI’s office in Jakarta coordinates the institute’s programmes and activities in the Asia Pacific region. RWI has been active in different
countries across Asia since the 1990s and has coordinated regional programmes since 2007. Our regional focus has been to strengthen the
capacities of NHRIs and academic institutions to be actors of change for human rights implementation and their promotion across the region.


From 2017, the Jakarta office commenced a five-year regional programme focusing on the linkages between human rights and environment, climate
change and sustainable development. The programme supports research,
synergies between sectors and RWI’s global thematic foci.  The programme is
supported by the Swedish Development Cooperation.


*Position Description*

RWI is seeking applications to fill the position of a Communications Officer to support the Jakarta office and the communication of its
programme across the region. The position is full-time and subject to funding, with an immediate starting date. The initial contract will be for
12 months, with possible extensions based on performance and funding.


The Communications Officer’s primary role is to ensure innovative and
regular communication of the programme with a variety of relevant
stakeholders and the general public across the Asia Pacific. The Communications Officer reports to the Institute’s Office Director in Jakarta and works in close coordination with the Head of Communications in our Lund, Sweden, headquarters.

S/he will provide technical field support on communications methods, manage supporting media consultants, help design and directly manage a RWI communication strategy, network and establish media dissemination avenues
while monitoring and evaluating the process.

S/he will work with online and social media, media and public relations, marketing and promotion, and content creation, including layout and graphic
work.

The Communications Officer will hold budget responsibilities, be expected to travel across the region and actively contribute to designing and
supporting the most effective and innovative ways to showcase RWI and to promote clear messaging on the interlinkages between human rights and the
environment.

*Main Tasks* *and Responsibilities*

·        Responsible to oversee and deliver on the communications function
with the Regional Asia Pacific Programme.

·        Responsible to professionally represent RWI’s interests and communications objectives within media networks and disseminations avenues.

·        Responsible to help design and deliver a clear communications campaign on human rights and the environment across the Asia Pacific.

·        Responsible to work with colleagues and build their capacities in
communications techniques and requirements.

·        Responsible to deliver/facilitate training with colleagues, media networks or other stakeholders as demanded by programme strategies or activities.

·        Responsible for the production and lay-out design of reports, brochures, newsletters, articles, press releases, feature stories, video material, and other

          information and communication materials for a variety of media, including digital, web and print;

·        Responsible to design methods and effectively disseminate RWI’s narrative on the importance of human rights in responses to environmental concerns.

·        Responsible to contribute to on-going/annual reporting on the programme through monitoring and evaluating the communications function.

·        Responsible for posting information on the Institute’s website, Intranet and social media platforms, in close coordination with the
Communication Department in Lund, Sweden, headquarters.

*Q**ualifications*

*Essential Criterion*

·    Degree or higher degree in journalism, graphic design and/or communications.

·    Established leverage and network presence within online and offline media dissemination avenues across the Asia Pacific

·    Experience of working with results-based management obligations.

·    Experience of working with human rights promotion within development programmes.

·    Minimum of six years of relevant, progressively responsible experience
in communications within development programmes.

·    Proven knowledge and application of MEAL systems and methodologies relevant to communications strategies.

·    3+ years of experience with photography and video production

·    Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator and Premiere or another video editing software.

·    The ability to train, develop, network and engage with stakeholders internally and externally

·    The ability to develop clear and impactful content across a number of platforms

·    Fluency in English with excellent English language writing skills



*Desired*

·          Experience/knowledge about human rights, environment and SDGs.

·          Experience working with Swedish development cooperation (Sida)
or other international donors

·          Knowledge of other languages relevant to working in the region

·          Experience in designing and managing communications strategies
for regional programmes is highly desired
