Consultancy Opportunity: Communication Assistant for the Dissemination of Abortion Incidence Study (DAISY) Project

Period of Consultancy: August 2020 – November 2020

Yayasan Inisiatif Perubahan Akses menuju Sehat (IPAS) Indonesia, is a local foundation and work focusing

on reducing the mortality and morbidity of women and girls in Indonesia due to lack of access to reproductive health services. Yayasan IPAS Indonesia supports Government of Indonesia’s effort to reduce maternal mortality and improve reproductive health wellbeing of women and girls, by working with the Ministry of Health and/or other government agencies in strengthening the health system, and to engage the community through health education programs in collaboration with local civil society organizations. 

Following the completion of the recent study on abortion incidence in Indonesia by Guttmacher Institute and the University of Indonesia, Yayasan IPAS Indonesia would assist the Guttmacher Institute with developing and implementing a comprehensive communication plan to disseminate the study findings according to the needs and interests of the policy makers and stakeholders.

Yayasan IPAS Indonesia will develop several communication materials and carry out communication activities for the dissemination of the study.

We are currently seeking a Communication Assistant to support the DAISY project team. The Communication Assistant will work closely with Yayasan IPAS Indonesia’s Communications Specialist and DAISY’s Project Manager, as well as other Consultants within the team.

Scope of Work

The main scope of work for the Communication Assistant are:

-        Assist Communications Specialist and DAISY’s Project Manager in the process of developing communication materials and disseminating the study.

-        Support Yayasan IPAS Indonesia and DAISY Project plan in disseminating the study.

-        Contribute towards DAISY Project’s Communication Strategy.

-        Handling follow-up and technical coordination with other consultants.

-        Addressing the technical needs of the communications work.

-        Maintain communication with partners.

The Communications Assistant should also:

-        Ensure all communication materials graphics and videos meet the deadline, including complies with Yayasan IPAS Indonesia branding standards.

-        Support Yayasan IPAS Indonesia and partners in getting relevant messages across to target audiences within and outside the organization.

-        Respect Yayasan IPAS Indonesia’s principles and values as well as the promotion of gender justice and women's rights.

Qualifications

-      Degree in communication or related field is a plus.

-      Proven experiences, shown by a strong CV/portfolio as Communication Assistant or similar roles

-      Minimum of two (2) years experience working with NGOs and or CSO in a similar role is desirable.

-      Minimum of two (2) years demonstrable skills and experience directly and indirectly campaigning work in women’s rights, women’s empowerment, reproductive health issues, human rights, and social justice is highly desirable.

Knowledge and Skills

-      Familiarity with the process of developing communication materials.

-      Demonstrable skills and experience in effective media relations.

-      Excellent communication skills.

-      Ability to work methodically and meet deadlines.

-      Creative thinking, developing, designing, or creating new ideas.

-      Fluency in written and spoken English.

-      Respectful attitude towards Yayasan IPAS Indonesia’s principles and values on sexual and reproductive health rights.

-      Good knowledge and perspective towards women’s issues, sexual reproductive health and rights, social justice, and human rights.
