Program Overview

Our current work primarily focuses on forest and land-use. Over time WRI Indonesia aims to expand its portfolio to include climate, energy, and city and transportation. Therefore, it is important for the organization to identify and put in place the research building blocks for achieving the vision of WRI Indonesia supporting science- and data-driven decision making at national and sub-national level.

Job Summary

The Communications Coordinator will support WRI Indonesia’s office by developing and implementing communications strategies, and managing multiple communications channels (such as website, social media, blog, publications, media relations, and events) including the development and maintenance of WRI Indonesia’s website and Peatland Map Prize Competition website. The Communications Coordinator will proactively collaborate with the global team and donors on related work. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, sharp analytical thinking, and be able to demonstrate their ability to effectively engage with various national, sub-national and international stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

STRATEGY


·         Develop, support, and manage communications strategies for reports, events, conferences, and news opportunities;


·         Develop and maintain relationship with various key stakeholders (government, donors, funding agencies, public leaders, etc) to improve the image of the organization and open avenues of opportunities.


·         To assist Program team to advocate concerned program issues to government


·         Create clear, concise messaging to advance impact;


·         Develop strategy for web presence, including blog, social media, & website content;


·         Develop ideas for interactive media pieces including infographics, slideshows, charts, and videos, and support their design and promotion;


·         Develop communications activities evaluation scheme which allow for some sort of measurement of the communications effectiveness in contributing to the organization’s Theory of Change achievement;


·         Develop and maintain key media contacts;


·         Plan events for publication launches, roundtable discussions, meetings, and other announcements.


COORDINATION AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT


·         Coordinate all communications work at WRI Indonesia, ensuring the work lead to WRI Indonesia’s intended impact.


·         Coordinate the narrative and messaging that WRI Indonesia delivers at the project and institution level


·         Set and continually manage project with team members


·         Support annual fiscal planning through establishment of key metrics related to proposals


·         Develop and manage budgets for multiple projects


·         Monitor financial performance and takes appropriate action to ensure key financial objectives are met

OUTREACH


·         Implement developed outreach strategies;


·         Coordinate media outreach to traditional & new media. Assist with proactive outreach such as pitching, research, handling incoming requests, and monitoring daily news coverage;


·         Develop and maintain website content;


·         Coordinate outreach to partners and stakeholders via email communications, events, and other opportunities;


·         Develop ideas, write, and edit a variety of internal and external materials, such as blog posts, media materials, newsletters, op-eds, website content, and more;


·         Build and maintain a social media presence, including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn;


·         Manage contact database;


·         Develop branded marketing materials, such as brochures and PowerPoints.


SUPPORT


·         Support staff to build their skills, maximize their reach, and backfill duties when necessary;


·         Support the development of compelling fundraising materials, including proposals and presentations;


·         Monitor and support the publications process, including outreach planning, production, and distribution;


·         Organizing and lead media/communication visits


·         Provide general administrative support, such as scheduling, event logistics, and other responsibilities as needed;


·         Support and promote the institutional development and program of WRI Indonesia as needed.


OTHER RESPONSIBILITES


·         Sit and take notes as WRI Indonesia’s representative in the absence of Country Director at any government meeting and other coordination meeting;


·         Assist Country Director in elaboration of donors or official visits;


·         Support Country Director in providing support material for meeting with donors/government and other stakeholders;


·         Represent the organization as appropriate;


·         Significant other duties as assigned by Line Manager.


Job Qualifications


·         Ideal candidate will have masters degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or other relevant fields;


·         Proven professional experience of min. 5 years in communications within relevant program management;


·         International experience or prior work in a global organization preferred;


·         Experiences in liaison and negotiation with government;


·         Experiences in developing, implementing, managing and evaluating development/advocacy initiatives;


·         Interest and experience in forestry, energy, or other natural resources-related issues in Indonesia preferred;


·         Experience and proven ability to communicate effectively with Indonesian government officials (GOI) and sound knowledge of GOI structures, procedures and system;


·         Articulate, versatile, highly skilled writer with professional writing experience (professional clips or writing samples preferred);


·         Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a global team;


·         Excellent inter-personal communication skills, including the ability to encourage collaboration with other programs, international offices, and partners;


·         Understanding of social media and how to use it to impact audiences;


·         Excellent training and coaching skills;


·         Ability to work with limited supervision and work under pressure;


·         Ability to think creatively and collaboratively about all elements of communications work;


·         Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high quality work products;


·         Ability to travel and work in an insecure area with the flexibility to adapt to a constantly changing environment


·         Fluency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with a strong emphasis on written and spoken communications (additional language skills are welcome);


·         Legally able to work in Indonesia.


Must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position.


 

Final candidates might be required to take a writing test and to produce two writing samples when needed.
