Hiring: Asia Portfolio Manager - Forest Conservation Fund

 JOB DESCRIPTION: ASIA PORTFOLIO MANAGER 


ABOUT THE FOREST CONSERVATION FUND 
FCF is a not-for-profit foundation headquartered in Switzerland, which connects commodity buyers and other donors to tropical forest conservation projects in their sourcing landscapes. Together with communities and the private sector, we identify forests that are at risk of deforestation and channel them funding to support conservation activities. Since launching in June, 2020, the FCF has raised nearly one million dollars in donations and has approved nine projects in seven countries, covering a total of 94,868 ha of forests in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. We are seeking a team member to manage and recruit Grantees protecting tropical rainforest in Asia. You will be part of an innovative, rapidly-growing organization working with indigenous people and local communities to protect 6 million hectares of rainforest by 2030. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
Grantee recruitment and management
1. Identify and recruit applicants to the Forest Conservation Fund in Asia:
a. Contact NGOs working with indigenous people and local communities to explain our work and identify potential Grantees.
b. Respond to inquiries from potential Grantees contacting FCF through our website.
2. Support applicants through the application process: ensure information is complete, manage translations if necessary.
3. Prepare applications for discussion in the FCF Grants Committee. Review project proposals and budget for coherence and quality.
4. Monitor Grantee progress via quarterly desk review of:
a. Satellite reports of land cover change
b. Other biodiversity/management data (e.g. SMART tool)
c. Activity narrative from Grantee
5. Prepare annual Grantee monitoring reports for the Grants Committee.
6. Write content about projects for FCF website, newsletter, and social media.

Strategic support for the FCF
1. Represent FCF in Asia – attend conferences, maintain and develop relationships with thought leaders and potential funders
2. Research and develop Grantee and donor support and guidance documents as needed
3. Write grant applications to donors and foundations
4. Support FCF Executive Director to prepare documents for Grants Committee and Board meetings.
5. Attend quarterly Grants Committee and FCF Board teleconferences.
6. Work closely with FCF team on FCF program strategy development. MINIMUM 

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Excellent attention to detail; ability to manage relationships with up to 40 organizations, track applications through the grant-making process, and ensure grantees submit quarterly project information.
2. Experience with managing community development or conservation projects, preferably field-based.
3. Understanding of conservation objectives across a landscape.
4. Ability to collaborate and work with private companies, community leaders, and NGO actors.
5. Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia required.
6. Ability to travel to remote areas up to four weeks/year.

SCOPE OF WORK AND REMUNERATION
1. 60-100% position, based in Southeast Asia.
2. Start date February 1, 2021.
3. Independent contractor position; candidate must have rights to work as an independent contractor in their country of residence.
4. Competitive remuneration package based on experience.
5. Opportunities to hire and manage a team as more conservation projects are approved and funded in Asia.
