As a part of Indonesia – German Cooperation in reducing emission from forestry sector as well as improving livelihood of rural communities a project name Peatland Management and Rehabilitation has been implemented. The project aims to develop the planning and implementation capacities to rehabilitate peat ecosystem and mangrove forest in Kayan Sembakung Delta of North Kalimantan. The project also supports improving peatland management in East Kalimantan where Middle Mahakam area is the largest part of peat hydrological unit in East Kalimantan. The module combines policy and capacity development measures. Activities are implemented at the macro-meso and micro levels (pilot measures are used here as well). Improved management practices of peat and wetland ecosystem is one of the expected outputs from this project. The support for social forestry in peat ecosystem, peat rehabilitation and development of Desa Mandiri Peduli Gambut (DMPG) are among others.
For this reason, PROPEAT seeks a qualified Indonesian candidate for the following position:
Trainee for Peatland Rehabilitation
A. Responsibilities
· Experience and learn the inner working of the project and at the same time support the Peatland Management and Rehabilitation project in supporting the social forestry and DMPG implementation as well as peat rehabilitation demonstration plot development in East Kalimantan.
B. Tasks
· Assist the Policy and Institutional Capacity Building advisor in facilitating the social forestry management board and/or village institution in East Kalimantan;
· Assist in the planning process and implementation of natural resources management within the social forestry areas;
· Assist in organizing the meeting and event at the village level;
· Provide the support to review planning document in village forest management or related management document;
· Learn to participate in the planning, execution and documentations of meetings, workshops, training, seminars and other events related to community-based management of peatland and mangrove in the scope of the project;
· Learn to organize and exchange information of the activity with the team member and development partner such as FMU and related technical agencies in the district.
C. Required qualifications, competences and experience
Qualifications
· Active student or fresh graduate with Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry or its equivalent.
Professional experiences
· Voluntary experience in forestry survey and field work in the local community;
· Basic knowledge of peatland and mangrove ecosystem and its management;
· Good oral and written communications in English and Indonesia;
· Good conceptual, inter-personal, communication, negotiation, co-ordination, facilitation and representation skills;
· Knowledge and skills about digitalization;
· Strong interest to work on issues related to gender, natural resource management, and peatland rehabilitation.
Other knowledge, additional competences
· Good communication, organizational and information management skills;
· Intercultural understanding is additional advantages;
· Self-motivated with time and stress management skills and ability to work with minimum supervision.
· Good command of Ms. Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word);
· Experience with GIS software/application is an advantage;
· Ability to work in a team and to adapt to an international working environment.
