POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate, Palm Oil Technical and Smallholder will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of training programs for donor-supported farmer sustainability projects. The incumbent also supports the Team Manager, Palm Oil, in implementing all other palm oil and other related commodities field-related field programs in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. The incumbent will help in implementing series of field activities in Ketungau Hulu and Ketungau Tengah subdistrict, Sintang District, West Kalimantan. The Associate will also help communities to develop their communication skills to have dialogue with other stakeholders, especially with private sectors and Sintang district government.  This position will also contribute to plan trainings related to good agricultural practices, institutional strengthening, sustainability, develop training materials, monitor of field implementation, coordinate field work with others in the farm programs team, and support farmer access to preferred markets development from the commodity source. The Associate will take care of adequate communication and information exchange on field activities with all stakeholders at field level. The incumbent reports to the Team Manager Palm Oil.

 

 RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Conduct landscape and jurisdiction palm oil data collecting as well as conduct database management.

The Associate, Palm Oil Technical and Smallholder is responsible to conduct landscape and jurisdiction level palm oil data collecting (as well national level data per requested); maintaining and manage palm oil data base; conduct palm oil data analysis as well as assist place-base sustainable palm oil program data collecting and management;

·       Assisting palm oil related research and analysis

The Associate, Palm Oil Technical and Smallholder is responsible to support research at the landscape and jurisdiction level that relates to program or project deliverables. The research might include governance and spatial planning research;

·       Lead palm oil smallholder inclusiveness works

Lead Rainforest Alliance works and interventions related to oil palm smallholder inclusiveness initiative implementation at the landscape and jurisdiction level. Palm Oil Technical and Smallholder Associate lead Rainforest Alliance works in promoting Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Best Management Practices (BMP), institutional strengthening and sustainability practices for smallholders and other oil palm growers, this includes the design of training modules and curricula;

·       Report

Prepare and maintain periodical reports and analyses such as progress of transformation and outcome for internal and external use;

·       Represent Rainforest Alliance to conduct consultation and coordination with key stakeholders at the sub-national level on issues related to oil palm agronomic, certification, oil palm data and smallholders;

·       Support Palm oil related analysis and research as well as support national palm oil program deliverables;

·       Other duties assigned by Team Manager, Palm Oil.

QUALIFICATION

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, forestry, biology, NRM, or other related fields;
  • 2-5 years of professional work experience with organization and community in Indonesia farming sector and project management; experience with oil palm plantation company is preferable
  • Reasonable understanding of computer programs for reporting purposes (MS Office and Internet) and use of GIS tools are preferable;
  • Familiar with supply chains, farming and agriculture production and processing activities, Oil palm issues, training, value chains, auditing and group events especially related with smallholder farmer producer;
  • Knowledge on palm oil sustainability standards such as RSPO & ISPO is an advantage;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills in Indonesian and English;
  • Ability to work independently and guide a trainer's team towards defined objectives and goals; and
  • Willingness and ability to spend significant periods (about 50% of working days) in remote areas, in areas with some relative hardships in living conditions.
