GIZ Indonesia for the Peatland Management & Rehabilitation (PROPEAT) project: Advisor on Communication, Information and Knowledge Management

 As a part of Indonesia – German Cooperation in reducing emission from forestry sector as well as improving livelihood of rural communities a project name Peatland Management and Rehabilitation has been implemented.  The project aims to develop the planning and implementation capacities to rehabilitate peat ecosystem and mangrove forest in East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan.  The module combines policy and capacity development measures.  Activities are implemented at the macro-meso and micro levels (pilot measures are used here as well).  Policy advice is one area in which close cooperation at National level with the Environment and Forestry Ministry is pursued.

The project expected to deliver the several basic outputs as follows:

  • Integrated planning processes for the protection and sustainable management of peat ecosystems and mangrove in Kayan Sembakung Delta Area.
  • Improved peat and wetlands ecosystems land use system/practices.
  • Results from applied research and documented field experiences will be distributed at local, national and international levels. 

GIZ seeks a qualification Indonesia candidate for 1 (one) position of 

Advisor on Communication, Information and Knowledge Management 

 A.     Responsibilities

  • Support the project in strategically and creatively communicate the Peatland and Wetland management and protection issue and project activities to the target groups and stakeholders of the project/s through direct and indirect communication channels
  • Oversee the development and implementation of an overarching PR and communications approach for project in close coordination with technical advisors, Knowledge Management (KM) advisors of other GIZ projects and GIZ Country Office Indonesia
  • Act as project interface to the communications team within the GIZ Country Office Indonesia, provide quality control and alignment of GIZ corporate branding and design guidelines with all communications materials developed within the programme
  • Perform editorial work on reports (e.g., annual/quarterly/bi-monthly/post-event/evaluation reports, scientific publication), PR & communication materials and knowledge products in both English and Bahasa Indonesia to ensure high linguistic quality
  • Provide content updates on project/partner website
  • Generate creative ideas, lead the content creation and impactful utilization of raw footage provided by the multimedia / video professional, and its dissemination to target audiences
  • Support the project’s Principal Advisor/s, team leads and Senior Liaison Officer in their role, esp. on partner engagement, and possible linkages to partner websites 

B.     Tasks 

1)    PR & Communications

  • Oversee the development of a communication strategy for projects, defining passive and active communication channels and tools, to identify the target audience, and various means of communications (electronic print etc)
  • Lead the implementation of above-mentioned communication strategy, acting as advisor to and working closely with communications and media related staff across GIZ project
  • Coordinate PR & Communication activities with technical advisors, Knowledge Management advisors of other GIZ Projects and GIZ Country Office Indonesia
  • Design, produce, publish, and disseminate communication instruments / tools to mainly national but also international audience
  • Act as interface to the GIZ Country Office Indonesia and take responsibility for quality control and alignment with GIZ corporate branding, identity, and design guidelines 

2)    Media relations and outreach

  • identify possible join partners (development agencies, NGOs) to identify synergies in communication strategy implementation.
  • Compile and actively disseminate media information materials for specific target groups 

3)    Editorial

  • Perform editorial work on reports (e.g., annual/quarterly/bi-monthly/post-event/evaluation reports), PR & communication materials and knowledge products in English and Bahasa Indonesia to ensure high linguistic quality
  • Support editorial work and online presentation of the project
  • Coordinate and manage translation work and language proofreading 

4)    Knowledge products

  • Prepare fact sheets with GIZ design: projects, topics
  • Develop creative content and knowledge products about project issue, aiming at increasing the knowledge and awareness of stakeholder in Indonesia 
  • Design and send regular newsletter, coordinating and editing the inputs to be drafted by project advisors to create content
  • Write articles: Buzz, GIZ internal energy newsletter, etc.
  • Planning and developing videos (script writing) and their distribution (together with Video officer)
  • Conceptualize, plan, write and edit and operate the communication of success stories / achievements, e.g., of activities and pilot projects
  • Cooperate with GIZ global communication/global project in producing necessary communication material.

 

5)    Event support

Support the implementation of project’s events (e.g., FGDs, workshops, seminars, conferences, exhibition), which include:

·         Oversee design / branding / corporate identity (backdrops, invites, etc.) according to GIZ and partner standards
·         Liaise with journalists prior to the event, write and distribute press releases
·         Organize Press conferences when necessary
·         Prepare Media kit
·         Analyze post-event/evaluation reports
 

6)    Other duties / additional tasks

  • Subject to discussions with the Principal Advisor, the Advisor may be allocated additional tasks and other duties for shorter periods
  • The Advisor shall be prepared to travel and to work in the field. 

 

C.     Required qualifications, competences and experience

 Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in relevant field of work, e.g., Corporate PR/Communications, Journalism, Marketing Communication, International Relations
  • Very good working knowledge of IT, communication technologies (social media, related software, website) and newest communication methods
  • Proven track record of previous PR work matching the tasks above and network of journalists or multipliers in Indonesia
  • Very good communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia, including speaking and writing 

Professional experience

  • At least 5 years professional experience in the field of communications (editorial work, media and PR work, journalism, using social
  • Proven success and creativity in applying direct and indirect communication strategies, channels and messages to broad audiences (public, youth, media, etc.), breaking down technical content to easily digestible messages (social media, print media, etc.)
  • Prior working experience in environment, forestry, climate change-related sector is advantageous
  • Regional experience or prior work in a global organization/event is preferred
  • Insight into the International Development Cooperation work
  • Visual skills, such as photography, graphic design, and desktop publishing (DTP) is a plus
  • Experience in events preparation, coordination, and organization

  • Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high quality work products
  • Willingness to up skill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
  • Availability to travel within Indonesia for short-term project visits on short notice
