GIZ Indonesia for Reducing plastic waste and marine litter in East and South East Asia Project: Trainee for Communication Support

 The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a German implementing organization which provides services worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. 

In collaboration with Expertise France, GIZ implements a project for reducing plastic waste and marine litter in East and Southeast Asia (Rethinking Plastics: Circular Economy Solution to Marine Litter), financed by the European Union and co-financed by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The regional measures will be part of the global advisory BMZ project “Concepts for sustainable solid waste management and circular economy”. 

The project aims to support a transition to sustainable consumption and production of plastic in East and Southeast Asia (including Indonesia), and contribute to significantly reduce marine litter, including by supporting European approaches, policies, and business models, with the following key outputs: 

  1. Providing an enhanced basis for relevant EU policy dialogues, e.g., on environment, fisheries, and industry, concerning plastic production and management.
  2. Supporting the implementation of waste hierarchy, extended producer responsibility and deposit return schemes for plastic products and plastic waste.
  3. Facilitating the implementation of activities for sustainable consumption and production of plastic.
  4. Efforts for the reduction of litter from sea-based sources are enhanced
  5. Strengthened Green procurement policies, processes, and cooperation particularly in Japan and Singapore.
  6. Increased awareness of public authorities and consumers about sustainable consumption and production of plastic and impacts on the environment of littering. 

For this reason, the Rethinking Plastics project seeks a qualified Indonesian candidate for the following position: 

Trainee for Communication Support

Learn from and support the communication and visibility activities of the Rethinking Plastics project. 

  1. Tasks

General tasks and organization support

The aim of a traineeship with the Rethinking Plastics project is to give the trainee an insight and first-hand experience of the work culture of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH as well as understand how the project is implemented, monitored, and communicated. The trainee will participate in many activities under the project, not as an observer, but assisting in specific tasks (organization, research, note taking, providing critical feedback, etc.). Soft skills required in that positions include enhanced ability for teamwork, flexibility, organization, initiative, and very good communication skills. 

Specific Tasks

       Learn to participate in the planning, execution and documentations of meetings, workshops, training, seminars and other events related to the project activities.
       Learn to organize and exchange information of the activity with the team member and development partners.
       assist the communication aspects of the project including in production of the communication materials, publications, events, etc.
       assist the compilation and management all the projects’ relevant documents (technical reports, meeting notes, pictures, etc). 

C.  Required qualifications, competences, and experience 

Qualifications

  • Fresh graduate bachelor or active student in the last semester in communication/International relation/media journalism/environment, or other subjects.

Professional experiences

  • Basic knowledge of communication, etc.
  • Familiar with any environmental issues, especially plastic waste.
  • Good conceptual, inter-personal communication, self-employment, coordination, facilitation, and representation skills,
  • Strong interest to work on issue related to environmental management and human behavior, especially plastic waste management especially and sustainable consumption of plastic. 

Other knowledge, additional competences

·                Good communication, organizational and information management skills,
·                Intercultural understanding is additional advantages,
·                Self-motivated with time and stress management skills and ability to work with minimum supervision.
·                Good English proficiency with excellent writing skills
·                Good command of Ms. Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word),
·                Familiar with visual design program,
·                Experience in writing article, blog, social-media caption, is an advantage,
·                Ability to work in a team and to adapt to an international working environment.

Period of Contract: 3 months (with 3 months potential extension subject to the prolongation of the project duration)
