Marine Technical Assistant ATSEA-2

ATSEA-2 is the 2nd phase of the GEF-financed, UNDP-supported ATSEA program, building upon the foundational results realized in the first phase of the ATSEA program, covering Indonesia, Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea, and Australia.  This 5-year project will support implementation of the following governance  and environmental objectives of the ATS regional Strategic Action Program: (i) Strengthening of ATS regional governance; (ii) Recovering and sustaining fisheries; (iii) Restoring degraded habitats for sustainable provision of ecosystem services; (iv) Reducing land-based and marine sources of pollution; (v) Protecting key marine species; and  (vi) Adaptation to the impacts of climate change.

The Marine Technical Assistant will support the work of Regional Project Management Unit (RPMU) of ATSEA-2 specifically for maintaining liaison with project partners, national and international consultants. S/he will also have to ensure technical and logistical arrangements in close coordination with the RPMU to support implementation of project activities.

2. Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Regional Project Manager (RPM), the full time Marine Technical Assistant will be assisting project technical issues including:

1)       Assist the RPM in the implementation of project activities;

2)      Support the coordination of project partners’ activities and commitments in implementing project activities;

3)      Track and ensure timely submission of national and international consultants’ deliverables;

4)      Support the organization and coordination of workshops, trainings, technical meetings, and any other meetings with counterparts including government, donors, private sector, NGOs and other stakeholders, including taking notes/ minutes of the meetings, while reporting frequently to RPM;

5)      Support the production and dissemination of communications and knowledge materials;

6)      Support the identification and resolution of logistical and organizational problems, under the guidance of the RPM;

7)      Support the preparation of monthly progress updates, quarterly and annual reports as required by RPM;

8)      Perform any other functions as required by the RPM.

 

3. Competencies

Education:

Bachelor Degree (Preferably Master’s degree) in marine science, environment management, natural resources management, sustainable development or related discipline.

Experience:

At least 3 years of professional experience in the area of sustainable development, or environment related projects.

Languages:

Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia, with effective oral and written communication skills.

IT Skills:

Proficiency in the use of various software applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, online communication technologies and MS Project). Adequate knowledge and practical experience in handling web-based management systems with strong IT background are desirable.

Other Desirable Skills:

Self-starter, independent and responsible personality. Ability to think and work logically, highly organized and work precisely with attention to detail. Ability to work harmoniously with staff members of different national and cultural backgrounds.
