The German Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH as an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, on behalf of the German Government, has been working with the Ministry of environment and Forestry through Forest and Climate Change Programme (FORCLIME) to Support the government of Indonesia, public actors and relevant private sectors in developing and implementing institutional and regulatory frameworks, methods and services for sustainable forest management, nature conservation and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation since 2009.
In 2021, FORCLIME in collaboration with ASRI Foundation and Papuan Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA Papua) will conduct a feasibility Study and assessment of Public health and environmental conditions in the Cycloop mountains Nature Reserve. Due the Covid 19 pandemic, the trainee program has been modified, for training and capacity building materials are provided online while field activities will be focused on data collection in target villages in the Cyloop mountains nature reserve. In addition, if necessary offline activities will be carried out at the FORCLIME office in Jayapura. Field activities and activities at the FORCLIME office are carried out in accordance with GIZ work procedures by adhering to strict health protocols. All trainee activities will be supervised by the GIZ FORCLIME Papua team and strategy area manager 2 as the person in charge of the region.
FORCLIME plans to establish trainee agreements with four students from UNCEN to participate in the trainee program in 2021 at the FORCLIME office in Jayapura. Students will be involved in FORCLIME and ASRI foundation activities and will be given spesifc assignments so they can gain work experience related to natural resource management. This trainee program is a specific cooperation between FORCLIME and UNCEN in Jayapura.
This trainee program with UNCEN is intended to develop skills and knowledge and provide opportunities for networking among participants with networks in the forestry, health and environment sectors. FORCLIME will support this development through a mentoring concept where FORCLIME staff will mentor trainee during their tenure at FORCLIME through regular online meetings.
In this trainee program, participants will receive training related to the FORCLIME program and receive information on the latest forest policies and development issues from FORCLIME staff. This training and trainee program will also involve the ASRI foundation as a FORCLIME partner who uses small funds to conduct a baseline survey in the FORCLIME project area in Papua Provinces.
FORCLIME seeks four (4) qualified Indonesian students from the local university in Papua Province (UNCEN, Jayapura) with the following positions:
1. 2 (two) Trainee for Mapping & Environmental
2. 2 (two) Trainee for Social Culture & Environmental

Trainee Program for Papua Province
A. Responsibilities
During the trainee, participants will be mentored by FORCLIME staff and will be given spesific assignments such:
- Support various FORCLIME activities carried out online and offline, including joint activities with FORCLIME partners.
- Suppoting ASRI foundation activities in conducting desk-research, interview the community , baseline surveys and mapping activities related to assessment activities in Tanah Papua.
- Collecting information related to social dynamics, customary structures, local knowledge and the management of forest product utilization by communities around the buffer zone of the Cycloop nature reserve.
- Supporting the mapping program conducted by FORCLIME and or making a map of FORCLIME’s working area acoording to the socio cultural data from the baseline survey
- Study on infrastructure and health services, including the accessibility of residents around the buffer are of the Cycloop nature reserve and the use of medicinal plants by local indigenous people.
- Study on climate change mitigation program development initiatives in Jayapura
B. Tasks
- In the pre-survey, conduct desktop research for survey location in Cycloop mountain nature reserve
- Assist the team in compiling the baseline survey questionnaire
- Assist the team in collecting baseline survey data and radical listening at priority locations.
- Assist the team in compiling pre-survey and survey reports
- Carry out activities or work in the field according to the direction of the project leader
- Assist in conducting social mapping analysis as requested by the team.
- Assist in conducting mapping of village areas and GIS analysis and as requested by team.
- Provide update report to provincial coordinator
- Provide activity report (and financial report if needed) for administrative purpose in FORCLIME.
C. Required qualifications and competences
· All participants must be registered as active students at UNCEN· Have a Papuan or West Papuan ID card and live in Papua.
· Have a strong motivation to be involved in the sustainable development of the land of papua in the future.
· Have a laptop and familiar using the platform for online meetings.
· Willing to work independently
· Willing to communicate regulary with FORCLIME team for coordination and gidance
· Have basic English skills
· Have an interest in engaging in local, national and international cooperation.
Duty Station: Papua Province
Working Hours: 5 working days per week, 8 working hours per day
